Lyrics to "I Still Believe" Updated for a More Progressive Audience
We here at Axis Line Media 6 recognize that portrayals of marginalized communities are often outdated and a result of regressive times. That's why we decided to change the lyrics to a famous song in "Miss Saigon" to be more inclusive and culturally sensitive so that nonbinary people from around the world can feel safe and welcome while watching the Broadway tragedy.
The musical is known for updating "Madame Butterfly", so how come we can't just update the musical behind the librettists' backs? Alain Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. ought to be ashamed of themselves for their bigoted transphobia.
Without further ado...
KIM:
Last night I watched him/her sleeping,
my body pressed to his/hers.
And then he/she started speaking.
The name I heard him/her speak was Kim...
Yes, I know that this was years ago,
But when I see 444 I know
You are here, still.
I still-
I still believe
You will return.
I know you will.
My heart against all odds
Holds still
Yes, still,
I still believe.
I know as long as I can keep believing,
I'll live.
I'll live,
Pronouns cannot die
You will return, you will return,
and I alone know why...
ELLEN:
Last night I watched you sleeping
Once more the nightmare came
I heard you cry out something,
A word that sounded like a deadname
And it hurts me more than I can bear
Knowing part of you I'll no longer share,
Never keep
But still-
I still believe
The time will come
When nothing keeps my parts
My heart forever more holds still
It's all over I'm here,
There is no TERF to fear!
Chris Chan, what's haunting you?
Won't you let the woman inside
What you so want to hide.
I need you too!
KIM: ELLEN:
For still-
I will hold you all night
I will make the Democrats feel all right!
I still believe (You are safe coming out to me!)
As long as I But I wish you would tell
What you don't want to tell,
Can keep believing
I'll live! (What your hell must be)
I'll live,
You can sleep now
Trump won't return
You can cry now
And I know why I'm your wife now
Kamala 4 life
BOTH:
Until we die!
